Miguel Fernández del P.1
Abnormal growth in apple and in pear trees observed in an orchard located at Poipaico, Municipality of Til-Til, Metropolitan Region (Chile), encouraged this study. First, a description of symptoms was made and confronted with that of literature describing Zn deficiency. Second, foliar, fruit, and seed samples obtained from sick and healthy trees were analized, as well as shallow soil samples from around the trees. Finally, plant and soil data were used to explain the case, supporting the occurrence of Zn deficiency symptoms in plants on the high available P content of the soil.
