Pot experiments for the identification of deficient micronutrients in Chilean soils. IV. Using Trifolium pratense, Arauco Province

The deficiencies of B, Mo, Zn, Cu, and/or Mn were studied in 69 soils of the Arauco Province (South-central Chie). In general, multiple micronutrient deficiencies predorninate. Molybdenum deficiency was the most prevalent and intense. Butsoils deficieni in al) the other micronutrients studied were also detected. Though B deficiency showed ihe lowest frequency, it was very severe in sorne soils. Only in two soils, deficient in micronutrients, the addition of Mo showed a depressive effect on yield. Manganese and B wereidentified as the micronutrients that showed a depressive effect in a larger number of soils, when added as a fertilizer. Red dover was a good indicator for both excess and scarcity of micronutrients, when used without inoculation and no nitrogen. Though, in general, a good correspondence was observed when micronutrient deficiencies were determined with red dover and with ryegrass, there were sorne differential responses between species.
