Nomenclature of the mountain papaya cultivated in Chile

Carica pubescens Lenné et Koch is the legitimate binomial for the mountain papaya, a fruit species native to South America that is cultivated in Chile and other Latin American countries. A historical analysis of the nomenclature is presented and a complete description of the species is given.
