Nomenclature of the "|lucumo"| cultivated in Chile

Pouteria lucuma (R. et Pav.) Kze. is the legitimate binomial for the "Iucumo", a fruit tree native to South America, that is cultivated in Chile and other Latin American countries. A historical analysis of the nomenclature is presented and a complete description of the species is given.
