The universal soil-loss equation (A = R K L S C P) is proposed for future programs on soil erosion control, in the Andean foothills of the VIII Region. This equation will provide a criterion to select alternatives of use and soil management practices which wilI best reduce erosion. This mathematical model has been developed in USA, to predict erosion losses for any specific combination of soil, topography, climate, cropping and management practices. For the application of the equation in the VIII Region, it is necessary to determine local values for the R, K and C factors. This was the basic objective of this work. The research was performed in a farm located 40 km East of Chillán, on a moderately silt loam soil (Dystrandept), with slope of 11%, establishing ten 2 x 20 m plots, with sediment measure devices (1978-1981). |
