| During four seasons (1976-1979) trials were conducted at La Platina (INIA) Exp. Sta., Santiago, comparing the practice of pre-sprouting potato seed with the "normal" farmers' practice (no special presprouting treatments), with five different cultivars used in the region. No interaction was observed between cultivars and seeding practices, pre-sprouting showed no significant advantage in earliness of emergence, number of culms/plant or commercial maturity. The small difference in yield observed will not justify the use by farmers of this practice, that has an extra cost. |
