Application of chilean nitrate (NaNO3) on the top of beds was compared with that onthe bottom of furrows, in furrow irrigated corn. The study was conducted through afield experiment on a Santiago silty clay loam soil in Santiago. Results indicated that application on the top of the beds was ineffective, but applicationon the bottom of furrows was highly effective. Soil chemical analysis indicatedthat most of the sodium nitrate applied on the top of the beds did not movedownward. Results can be explained by the lack of rains during the growing season of corn inthe Santiago area. |
