During 3 consecutive seasons in the Scrub Country and Tussock Country zones of Magallanes, a total of 947 adult Corriedale ewes and 634 two-tooth were controlled to find out the reproductive rate, defined as the number of lambs weaned over 100 ewes mated. In the Scrub Country the reproductive rate was found to be 69.4% for adult ewes and 52.5% for two-tooth, while in Tussock Country it was 61.7% for adult ewes and 51.1% for two-tooth. Main causes of the low reproductive rate in both areas were the incidence of barren ewes and lamb mortality.
