The etiological agents that cause soft-rots in potato stored in forms and marketingstores in the South of Chile (Provinces of Cautín, Valdivia, Llanquihue and Chiloé)were studied.
Two hundred and sixty six cultures were isolatecl, 40 of them were virulent. Forthe identification of these the antecedents of Elliot, Smith et al,. Breed et al., Kundratand Stanier et al., were used.The strains that cause soft rot were distribuited among the following taxonomicgroups: 25 types of Erwinia carotovora (Joms) Holland, 11 of Bacillus Cohn and 4of Pseudomonas Migula.
