A population ol 14 lentil lines was tested during 1980 and 1981 in the dry coastal range (VI Region-Chile), in natural environments with capacities to produce high, medium and low grain yields. The data were used to evaluate the worth of these environments for selection for grain yield. The relative efficiencies were computed by using statistical approach, the ability of productivityenvironments for identifying lines with highest genotypic values for grain yield.
The relative efficiencies were computad by using statistical approach, the ability of productivityenvironments for identifying lines with highest genotypic values for grain yield.
This statistical criteria indicated that high, medium and low productivity conditions were nearly equalfor selecting high-yielding fines. However, a detailed analysis showed that lines selected in eachproductivity condition were not the same. Therefore, by carrying out the selection process only in thehigh yielding environment is possible to discard the 21% of the lines evaluated which showed highresponse in the stress environments.
