Squash crops at the IV, Metropolitan and IX Regions of Chile showing yellowing and wilting of plantswere detected during 1985 and 1986. The plants died suddenly and their fruits rotted.
Phytophthora capsici Leonian was determinad based on the symtomatology, the cultural andmorphological characteristics, of the isolated fungus, and pathogenicity test. This is the first descriptionof the fungus attacking squash in Chile.
