ldentification of Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn. Affecting faba bean (Vicia faba L.) in Chile

During 1990/91 season a disease was detectad on faba beans fields of the central region in Chile. Thedisease affected the seedlings and plants of 15-20 cm high. Necrotic rot of the stem and roots wasdeveloped.
According to the symptomatology, cultural and morphplogical characteristics of the isolated fungusand the results of the pathogenicity test, it was concluded that Rhizoctonia solani Khun, was the causalagent of the disease affecting faba bean.This correspond to the first report of R. solani affecting faba bean in Chile.
