The preparation of an antiserum against Nicotiana virus 1. The aim of the work presented here was to elaborate an antiserum against Nicotiana virus 1 which causes the "Common mosaic" in tobacco. The process of preparing the antiserum consisted of injeeting rabbits intravenously, with purified virus obtained fron infected tobacco plants. To purify the virus the sap was heated to 60º C and centrifuged (1 hr. 2.000 r;m) after which, ammonium sulfate was added to the clarified sap to precipitate the virus. Those rabbits which resisted the injections were submitted to a cardiac injection. In this way 10 cc of blood were obtained from each of the rabbits. After 24 hours the blood was centrifuged, by which, clear antiserum was obtained. The antisera reacted positively with the purified virus using the precipitine reaction and also with sap directly obtained from infected planst using the agglutination reaction. Positive reactions were obtained with undiluted antisera and with the antisera diluted 1 :10.
