Effect of NPKS fertilization on the natural grasslands of Magallanes and its modification due to soil and climatic factors

Emilio Ruz J.1 y Nilo Covacevich C.1

The effect of different fertilization treatments on the natural grasslands was studied at six locations, of the Chilean Patagonian Range. N and NP treatments showed the best responses, by increasing pasture yield, changing the botanical composition and improving the nutritive value of the forage. In humid areas, P and S fertilizers stimulated legume development. At the Kampenaike site, where water relationships were also studied, filrtilization improved water use efficiency.
