At the Quilamapu Experiment Station (INIA) the effects of rusts, cereal aphids and barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) on two wheat cultivars were analized, from 1980 to 1987. In a completely randomized block design, the application of a fungicide, an insecticide and both chemicals were compared to a check without protection. Results indicated that aphids and BYDV had no economical effects on yield of the cultivars Onda INIA and Andifén, though BYDV has been presento Aphids density was less than 1 per tiller, except in 1982 and 1984, when they reached 1.7 and 2.3 aphids/tiller, respectively. Puccinia recondita affected 40% and 27% of Andifén and Onda-INIA leaf area, respectively.
