At the Cauquenes Experiment Station from 1983 to 1987, the performance of three cultivars of Ribes rubrum L. and one of Ribes nigrum L. was evaluated. Blooming occurred from mid September to mid October and fruit maturity between December 9th and January 9th. Yield was almost always under 1 ton/ha; occasionally it was over 2 ton/ha. The presence of a wood borer wevil was detected and the death of important parts or even whole plants occurred. Also, Pseudococcus sp was common. Natural conditions of the area not suitable to these species, according to the poor growth and low yield levels observed.
