The objective of this study was to validate the comparative yield method in respect to the cutting method, to estimate biomass production in a Phalaris aquatica (hardding grass) and Trifolium subterraneum (subclover) pasture, in the subhumíd Mediterranean dry land of Chile. The research was conducted from July 1983 to February 1984, at the Hidango Substation (INIA) (34º 07' S lat., and 71º 44' W long.), in pastures grazed by sheep and cattle, and deferred for hay making. The validation was done throught a simple regression analysis, for both methods. A coefficient of determination of 0.974 was obtained. The slope reached 0.887, concluding that the comparative yield method overestimates the dry matter production in only 11.3%.
