Palomo-INIA: new white bean variety for export

Chile produces white beans for export, mainly navy and Great Northern types. With the purpose to furnish farmers with a new option for the bean export market, the Food Legume Program of INIA (Chile) has released the variety Palomo-INIA. It was selected from a group materials from CIAT, and correspond to the WAF-9 line. it has a growth habit type I (bush, determinate), with a plant height of 40 to 50 cm. The flowers are white, with large and green colour pods. Its period from sowing to maturity is 105 to 110 days. It is a variety with a wide adaptation with a seed yields of 2,100 to 2,700 kg/ha. It has inmunity to Common Bean Mosaic Virus, "Type" and "New-15" strains, and is susceptible to the "necrotic" strain and the Yellow Bean Mosaic Virus. The seed is white, with intermediate brilliance, large size and elongated in shape.
