Sixteen autumn born dairy-calves of Holando europeo were used to evaluate their productive performance with two starter concentrates, different in their fine-bran component: (T1) wheat and (T2) triticale. Calves remained with their mothers during the first 12 hr and then were housed in individual cages, up to 3 months of age. During the first 60 days, they received 4 lit milk/day, plus alfalfa hay up to 1 kg/day. The starter concentrates were given ad libitum; fine-bran was 55% in both. The rest of the ingredients (T1 = T2) were: barley (30%), fish meal (13%), bone meal (1%), salt (1%). Protein levels were 19.3 (T1) and 19.1 (T2). Liveweights were measured individually every 7 days and consumption was registered daily. Final L. W. at weaning 77.5 (T1) and 77.0 kg (T2). No significant differences (P > 0.05) were observed in daily weight gains average 0.650 kg. Milk, concentrate, and hay consumptions were also similar. It was concluded that triticale fine-bran replaces satisfactorily wheat fine-bran, in a starter concentrate for calves.
