In the first year, of a two years study, preliminary notes on the performance of early weaned Suffolk-Down lambs and of their impact on a seeded pasture, in the subhumid Mediterranean zone, were carried out. Clover contribution to total forage decreased from the beginning to the end of the grazing period, in all the paddocks. In contrast, hardinggrass and ryegrass contribution increased as a function of the increase in total daily forage availability per animal (D.F.A.). Final liveweights (L.W.) ranged from 28.5 to 31.5 kg. With grazing pressures larger than those Supported by the intermediate paddocks (D.F.A. between 100 to 200 kg D.M./animal). it was difficult to reach 30 kg of L.W., in a rearing-fattening period of 56 days.
