Between January and March 1982 and January and April 1983, a survey for organo-chlorides (O.C.) was done in the Aconcagua Valley. The river was sampled at eight sites, taking five samples of 2 It, every other week. Soils were sampled at eight sites of the valley, taking one sample of 2 kg at two depth (0-20 and 20-40 cm). AII these samples were analized for O.C., by gas liquid chromatography. Only traces of O.C. were determined in the water, much bellow the levels considered normal in the literature. But the presence of Heptachlor, Aldrin, Dieldrín, Endrín and DDT and its metabolites was rather high (0.003 to 0.247 ppm) in the soil samples.
