Ouring several seasons (1980-1986), a gray mold disease was observed on len ti Is in the Coastal Oryland and Central Valley areas of the VI, VII and VIII regions of Chile. Symptoms on affected plants consisted of lesions on stems, wilting of flowers, brown spoting of pods and discolored seeds. From all these organs, the fungus Botrytis cinerea Pers. was readily and consistently isolated. Following Koch's postulates, it was demonstrated that this fungus was the causal agent of the disease and had not been reported before for lentils in Chile.
