Orlando Andrade V.1

During the 1984/85 season, necrotic oval spots were detected on oats (Avena sativa L.) affecting leaves and stems. The spots were sorrounded by a chlorotic halo and subepidermal pycnidia were observed. Spores were bacilar, hyaline, 3 to 4 septate, 30 to 50 by 3 to 5 microns. The fungus was identified as Septoria avenae (Frank.), which had not been reported in Chile before.
