Twenty nine wheat lines susceptible to Puccinia graminis and BYDV were studied in the greenhouse, under two treatments: in one, the plants were inoculated with stem rust and the PAV race of BYDV; in the other, they were inoculated only with rust and mantained virus free. Plants inoculated with BYDV showed a lower stem rust attack in relation to the virus-free plants (P < 0.01). In a field trial, stem rust resistance of 43 wheat lines was also evaluated, with 6 plants for each line: 3 with BYDV symptoms and 3 without. Results confirmed those obtained in the greenhouse: significantly (P < 0.01) less stem rust attack was observed on plants with BYDV symptoms, in relation to virus free plants. |
