During the last seasons, from 1982/83, a disease was detected on ch ickl ing vetch, in the dry-Iand area of the V and the VI Región of Chile. Plants showed necrosis and blight on leaves, branches and stems. Cankers were also seen on affected stems. Botrytis cinierea Pers. was consistently isolated from plants showing the above symptoms. The fungus grew profusely on PDA anc sclerotical bodies were formed on the culture. Chickling vetch seedlings of approximately two weeks were artificially inoculated with a spore suspension of the fungus, and consecuently field symptoms were reproduced. Botrytis cinerea was recovered from the inoculated plants. This is the first report of B. cinerea on chickling vetch, in Chile.
