Wilting caused by P. capsíci, is one of the most important pepper deseases in the livorld. Genetic resistance is a possible control strategy. Fortytwo genotypes of INIA's Vegetable Research Program germoplasm collection, were screened for resistance, using Pochard and Chambonet's technique, under greenhouse and field conditions. Smith 5 was highiy resistant and stable. This genotype may be used in a breeding programo Genotypes C. annuum 462, Thailand, Taiwan, Stal Cristal and LS 279 showed reactions of resistance, but of a unstable type. This suggests that they have to be studied more carefully before using them as progenitors. A good correlation of the reaction under greenhouse and under field conditions was found.
