In the La Platina Exp. Sta. (INlA, Santiago), the behaviour of the cultivars Aurifén, Millaleu-INIA, and Sauce-INIA were studied, in three dates of sowing (June 26 th, August 1st, and August 30th, 1985), using three rates of seeding: 250,350, and 500 grains/m2. The average yields for the dates of sowing were: 69.3a, 61.9b, and 53.8c (P < 0.05) quintals/ha, respectively. These results are similar to those obtained in previous experiments. The average yields for the cultivars were: 57.6b, 64.3a, and 62.9ab (P < 0.05) quintals/ha, for Auriffén, Millaleu-INIA, and Sauce-INlA, respectively. Production increased as rate of seeding increased: with 250 grains/m2, it was 58.3b; with 350, it was 61.8ab and with 500, it was 64.9a (P < 0.05) quintals/ha. These results shows the convenience of further research in the use of greater rates of seeding, than the currently recommended.
