The main objective of this Program is to increase yield’s potencial and quality of the varieties under cultivation in Chile. Bean Common Mosaic Virus (BCMV) and Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus (BYMV) are the main limitations in the country, so the Program emphasis is to obtain resistance to both virus. As new stains of these virus have been identified, several methods are being used; the most used are crosses and back-crosses, between stablished susceptible varieties and resistant varieties. Several improved bean varieties have been released by the Program.
