The weed Pennisetum clandestinum Hochst ex Chiov. (common name kikuyo), was identified in April 1985, in Chile. This weed is invading fruit orchards, vineyards and pastures, in the coastal areas or in the irrigated fields of Copiapó (III Region), Elqui and Limari (IV Region). It has also been found in some localities of the Valparaíso (V) Región, and around Melipilla (Metropolitan Region). It is an aggressive perennial grass, that spreads by stolons and rhizomes, but with limited seed production.
