ABSTRACT
Laurel-INIA, new winter wheat cv. for the south-central zone of Chile

Laurel-INIA is a winter wheat, with creeping growth habit and excellent agronomic type, which produces numerous tillers. It has awnletted white heads. The kernels are soft in texture, and have brown color and ovoid shape. This cv. is moderately resistant to stripe rust and septoria leaf blotch, and moderately resistant to moclerately susceptible to leaf rust. lts grain yield is higher than Andifen and lower than Lancero- INIA. Thetest weight isaround 80 kg/hl,and has acceptable baking qualities. It is recomended for fali sowing in the south-central area, in irrigated soils, and specially at the foothill area, where planting should be started early, atthe beginning of April.
