At the Quilamapu Research Station (lNlA), Chile, a field experiment was set up to study the possibility to inoculate artificially the soil and evaluate the losses in grain yield and its components, at different levels of infection with the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis (Sacc.) Arx et Olivier, var. tritici Wal ker.
Through the results, it is possible to conclude:
- Oat grains inoculated with Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritíci permited the infection of wheat plants under field conditions.
- The rate of inoculum sufficientto produce a significant damage on wheat plants was one oat grain for each grain of wheat.
- This inoculum rate is recommended in germplasm selection for the take-all disease, caused by Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici.
