During the last years, oat (Avena sativa L.) plants with symptoms similar to halo-blight were observed at the IX Region of Chile. lnitially they presented small oval spots, light green or chforotic. Subsequently, the spots increased in lenght, with a central necrotic lesion surrounded by a translucent chlorotic halo. A bacterium vvas isolated consistently from these spots, and was artificially inoculated on healthy oat leaves. The pathogenicity test was positive and the bacterium was identified as Pseudomanas syringae pv. coronafaciens (Elliot) Young, Dyeand Wilkie, causal agent of halo-blight of oats.
