Juan Pedro Sotomayor S.1 y Arturo Lavín A.1

Wines from the drip irrigation trial performed at Cauquenes (Part I), were characterized by chemical and sensory evaluation, for the 1979 and 1980 harvests. lrrigated vines ylelded more, but their fruits were lower in soluble solids and their musts fermented for a shorter period. Chemical values showed that the wines from irrigated plants were lower in alcohol, extract, total po(yphenols, color intensity and pH (generally) and higher in titratable acidity. Sensory valuation detected differences for color, aroma, body, taste, astringency and general quality. Wines from the check plants were always superior to those from the irrigateo plants in the overall calification.
