Determination of non ionic chlorinated pesticides in non fatty foods by entrainment distillation and recycling isooctane (MAVRI)

The determination of organochlorinated residues in non-fatty foods, by conventional methods, is a very complex and expensive technique, becoming critical for those laboratories where large numbers of samp les have to be analyzed To overcome these problems, a different technique, based on the extraction of organochiorinated residues from the matrix by entrainment distillation and recycling isooctane (MAVRI), was designed. Working with 0.02 ppm solutions of Lindane, Heptachior, Aldrin, DDE, Dieldrin and DDT, the best extracting time was determined as two hours. It wasconcluded that,though MAVRI presented a highervariation coefficient (lower confidence)than the FDAs method, its use is highly convenient when selective studies involving a large number of samples are concerned. MAVRI proved to be cheaper and less time consuming.
