Boron levels of plant tissues, soils and water were measured through the 1977-78 growing season in four Elqui Valley vineyards, located at Rivadavia, Peralillo, Vicuña and El Tambo. Leaf area and productivity were evaluated the following season. Soils at root depth were sampled from September through March. Boron levels disminished-steadily through the season. The highest levels (aboye 1.5 ppm) were found in Vicuña and El Tambo, throughout the season. The Turbio and the Elqui rivers showed levels aboye 0.5 ppm, from September to November; but the Claro river had very 1ow boron contenf throughout the entire growing season. Foliar leves of affected leaves ranged between 135 and 376 ppm; Vicuña and El Tambo were the most affected localities. Though leaf area decreased in plants growing n soils high in boron, buIburst, yield, and number and weight of clusters was not affected.
