ABSTRACT
Adjustment to the capillarity method for determining soil bulk density

To reduce the error due to different pore sizes, the bulk density of 12 soil samples was determined, using clods of different heights (1.25; 2.25; 3.25; and 4.25 cm). For each sample, a graph was drawn with the relation between size of clod and bulk density obtained. This relation was rectilinear, and the estimated regresion had a good level of significance; the origen ordinate value (“a”) was a good estimate for bulk density. This “a” value can be obtained, in a simplified way, by connecting with a straight une the averages of two determinations with 1.25cm clods and of two with 4.25 clods.
