Crosses between the winter wheat cultivar Manella and the spring wheat cultivar Antufen were performed at the Quilamapu Experiment Station (INlA), Chillán, from 1974 to 1979. The vegetative period (time from seeding to heading) of the parents, the hybrids or original stock, and the first segregating generation (F2) were evaluated. Results indicated that the vegetative period was affected by climatic conditions and that variances for the first segregating generation (F2) were significantly greater than for the F1 hybrids.
