In August 1979, a vineyard was established at La Platina Experiment Station (INIA), Santiago, using six different planting distances (m): 2 x 1; 2 x 23 x 2;3 x 2.5;35 x 2 and 3.5 x 2.5. The plants were conducted in a 3-wire “espaldera” system and pruned in a Guyot system, leaving 80,000 buds per hectare, in alI treatments. From 1972 on, the following data were recorded yearly: yield/plant, yield/hectare, number of duxters/plant, trunk diameter and weight of the pruned material/plant. During the first five years, the yield/ha was higher for the high density plantings, while the production/plant was twofold for the low density treatments. Also, the vegetative growth of the plants in the high density treatments was much reduced when compared with the low density treatments. |
