ln 1974, the Ministry of Agriculture detected severely infested fields of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) with golden nematode (Globodera rostochiensis WolI) in La Serena area. That same year a Chilean specialist selected, at Corneil, potato hybrids with resistance to G. rostochiensis, from “andigena” breeding material. In 1978 and 1979, these selections were tested on infested soils at La Serena (29°54’ S lat. and 71º15’ W long.), and several clones were free of anycists in their roots, in both seasons. The International Potato Center (CIP) identified G. rostochiensis (Rol) pathotype in samples from Chile. |
