ABSTRACT
FLUCTUATION IN NEMATODES POPULATIONS DUE TO CROP ROTATION

In a field where potatoes had been grown, a rather heavy infestation of Meloidogyne spp., Pratylenchus spp., Xiphinema americanum, Ditylenchus spp., Trichodorus spp., Helicotylenchus spp y Criconemoides spp., was found in the soil. To reduce this infestation, several rotation systems were tried. When corn, wheat or fallow followed the potatoes, the level of infesta tion was reduced; but when potatoes were repeated, or red dover, or oats-Vicia sp. followed, an increase in nematode population occured, mainly of the root knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) and the lession nematode (Pratylenchus spp.).
