EFFECT OF SEEDING DATE AND NITROGEN RATE ON A SPRING WHEAT CULTIVAR. II. PLANT HEIGHT VARIATIONS AND DURATION OF PHENELOGICAL STAGES

The effect of live seeding dates and seven nitrogen rates on plant height and phenological stages was studiend during the 1974 and 1975 periods, using the spring wheat cultivar Antufen. the research was carried out at the Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias (INIA), Estación Experimental Quilamapu, Chillán, Chile. The principal conclusions were: 1. The seeding date modified plant height and length of the vegetative period. The lower values of the parameters (pant height and vegetative period) corresponded to late seeding dates. 2. The reduction of the period between seeding and maturity, observed in the late seeding date, is mainly explained by the reduction of the seeding-tillering number of days. 3. Plants fertilized with nitrogen were significantly higher than those in the control plots (no nitrogen). 4. The different levels of nitrogen did not modify the seeding-heading period.
