The control of rainfall-erosion in cropland soils require the selection of practices that resul in better use and conservation of the soil. a mathematical model has been devoloped to predict erosion losses for any specific combination of soil, topography, climate, cropping and management practices. This model, known as the universal equation for erosion prediction, expresses the annual average soil losses as a function of the following factors:
A = R K L S C P
For the application of the equation it is necessary to determine local values for R, K and C. The basic objetive of this study was to determine preliminary values for the "R" factor in the areas of Chillan and the andean foothills near Chillan. the values obtained were 214.5 and 304.4 respectively.
