ABSTRACT
METABOLIZABLE ENERGY AND DIGESTIBILITY OF DIETS CONTAINING LUPINE (Lupinus albus) IN POULTRY FEEDING

Claudio Ciudad B.1 y Miguel A. Capella S.2

A significant decrease in digestibility and metabolizable envergy of the ration was observed when 14 days old White Leghorn chicks were fed diets containing 10, 15 and 20% of luppine seed or lupine meal (Lupinus albus var. Astra) - with low content of alcaloide - replacing the glucose of the basal diet. The effect is such, that the methodology proposed by Hill and Anderson for calculating metabolizable energy of ingredients can not be applied. Results indicate the possible presence of inhibitory factors that affect digestibility; the nature of those factors could be physio-chemical, enzymatical and/or farmacological.
