ABSTRACT
EFFECT OF PLANTING DATE ON YIELD, PERCENT OIL AND PERCENT PROTEIN OF SOYBEANS

Vital A. Valdivia B.1

The influence of planting date on the yiel and composition of soybean seed from the cultivars Hark, Amsoy and Calland under irrigated conditions was studied during the growing seasons 1975-76 and 1976-77.
Five dates of planting were used from early October to early December. Best average yields were produced with October and early November plantings. The interaction of varieties with planting dates was highly significant. Yield of the late veriety Calland was more affected by late planting. Hark the earliest cultivar used in this research, did not show yield advantage with the earlier planting. Amosoy had a broader range in planting dates for producing high yields.
There was slight decrease in oil content with late plantings, except Calland that had an appreciable drop of oil content with the last planting date.
Protein content was higher in the late dates of planting.
