Soils of the province of Ñuble (Chile) were grouped in eight different classes according to their origen, topographical position and some managerial aspects. Soils from the Central Valley differ from both Coastal Range and Andes Mountain soils. In the oriental sector (Andes Mountain), the soils are mainly "trumaos" with high organic matter percentages and high phosphorus fixation and low base saturation. The pH of these soils in slightly acid. In the western sector of the area (Coastal Range) the soils are mainly derived from granitic materials. Organic matter percentage and cation exchange capacity of these soils, are low; base saturation, medium, and ph slightly acid. soils on the Central Valley are in general of alluvial type and the chemical caracteristics vary between the trumaos and the granitics, according to the position in the landscape.
