DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MALES AND FEMALES OF BEAN WEEVIL Acanthoscelides obtectus Say

Horacio Dell'Orto T.1

Bean weevils, Acanthoscelides obtectus Say, have a number of morfological chao racters that can be used to differentiate males from females:
The curvatureof the apical furrow in the terminal abdominal segment in the male is curved down while in the female is straight.
The hairs of the abdominal segments of the male are more pale, whereas on the female are darker.
The reproductive organs of the bean weevil can be exposed applying a light pressure between the last pair of legs, to facilitate a precise determination of sexo.
