The purpose of this study was to determine the metabolizable energy content of wheat standard middlings (afrechillos) and wheat flour middlings (harinillas) from 4 and 3 different sources respectively.
The trial was conducted with day-old chicks (Golden Coment) fed with a commercials tarter ration for the first two weeks. At 14 days of age this diet was replaced by experimental rations consisting in a basal diet with 40% of glucose which was replaced by wheat by -prodcuts at levels of 20 - 30 - 40%, all substitutions being made on weight base. Chromic oxide was added to all diets as an indicator.
The average values of metabolizable energy, dry matter base, were 1.869 and 2.147 kcal/Kg for wheat standard middlings and wheat flour middlings respectively. The difference can be explained by the lower crude fiber content of the latter by - product.
