At the Carillanca Experimental Station a trial was performed during the ·1974-1975 crop season. The main objective of the trial was to explore the potential of new chemi· cals in controlling weeds in oats for grain. Determination of the action of the chemicals in some physiological reactions of pre and post anthesis were studied. These physiological processes are know to control the sink and consequently the final yield.
In this study it was concluded that both, sink and yield are determined by the number of grains in a square meter bases. This last yield component is determined in the pre anthesis period, which in time was altered by the chemicals: Kerb, Mataven and Tribunil Combi. Grain weight was not affected by any of the chemicals used, so the yield differences cannot be explained in bases of this parameter.
Weed control performed by the action of Igrano, Agren and Mataven did not control dicotiledoneas weeds besides reducing graín yield and dry-matter. Both are grass killers.
