ABSTRACT
RAPESEED OILMEAL AND "|BROILER LITTER"| AS PROTEIN SOURCE FOR FLUSHING RATIONS IN EWES

Héctor Manterola B.1, Guillermo García D.2 y Eugenio Newmann C.3

In order to study the effects of two protein sources: Rapessed oilmeal and "broiler litter" for Flushing in ewes, 120 French Merino ewes were alloted in three treatments, being two of them with Flushing using either rapeseed oilmeal or "broiler liter" as protein source, and the third (Control) with natural pasture as nutrient source.
Liveweight gains for the Flushing treatments were significantly higher (P<0.01) when compared to those obtained in the Control group. No significant differences in liveweight gains were observed between the two groups under Flushing; however a trend towards higher liveweights gains wasnoted in the treatment with "broiler litter". Flushing also gave rise to significant increments in twinning rates and lambing percentage, but didn't affect the number of barren ewes and newborn lamb weights.
