ABSTRACT
TRUNK DIAMETER VERSUS TRUNK GIRTH TO ESTIMATE GROWTH OF PEACH TREES

Carlos Sotomayor S.1

Trunk girth is frecuently used as an estimate of tree growth. the posibility to subtitute it by diameter measuring, more accurate and easy to make is proposed.
Girth (G) and diameter (D) trunk measurements were made in 33 plants of 7 years old peach trees using the equation G = 3.14 X D. A very high correlation between these parameters of trunk was observed. It is therefore proved that the use of trunk diameter is a good parameter of growth, with its inherent advantages.
